At the Conscious Kitchen Team - Everyone is Welcome

At Conscious Kitchen we organize weekly dinners to promote community, conscious living and sustainability. While we’re primarily a food and sustainability focussed space, one of our core values is conscious living. We are aware of and encourage everyone to learn about how different social issues interact and shape the world we live in. We consider how we can support other communities and strengthen one another.

These Community Guidelines exist to uphold our community values and safety. If you have questions about the guidelines or want to share an experience related to these guidelines, please reach out to one of the coordinators through chat, during the dinners or by emailing us.

1. WE ARE AN INCLUSIVE AND SAFE COMMUNITY

We create a space where you can meet new people, create friendships and find a support system in the city, a place to feel home. To ensure people feel safe joining, we are explicitly inclusive and anti-bigotry. We don't engage in racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, or otherwise exclusionary behaviour.

While intent matters, impact is equally important, so if someone indicates that you’ve hurt them, do take this seriously.

2. WE ARE AN INTERNATIONAL & MULTICULTURAL SPACE

Our community consists of people from many nationalities, religions, and cultures. Approach other community members with respect and curiosity and take into account that there might be cultural differences so make sure to respect one another's boundaries. While English is our main language, we welcome all languages. If asked to switch to English for accessibility, please do so if possible for you.

3. PRACTICE RESPECT AND KINDNESS

As a diverse and inclusive community, sometimes difficult conversations can arise. Meet others openly, respectfully, give others space, and respect others' agency.

4. RESPECT PRIVACY

We respect privacy. Please do not share photos, telephone numbers or other private information of community members without their consent.

NB: We as an organization occasionally take photos. The photos are used with the purpose of promoting our organizatin. If you wish to not participate or have seen yourself online without your consent, please reach out to any of the coordinators to solve the issue.

5. THERE IS SPACE FOR EMOTIONS, NOT FOR AGGRESSION

Violence, such as aggressive behaviour, use of slurs, harassment or provocation are not tolerated. When we observe this behaviour we retain the right to intervene on the spot and take appropriate measures to guarantee the safety of the community.

If you are experiencing or observing any of the above mentioned behaviours, please find one of the coordinators.

UPHOLDING THE COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

If the coordinators receive signals that someone has breached these guidelines, we will approach the persons in quistion privately about the incident to get everyone’s perspective and discuss how to adress these issues and avoid recurance.

The coordinators retain the right to deny entrance to the community on a case by case basis if they deem it necessary.

General Note

Conscious Kitchen is entirely volunteer run including the coordinator team. You do not need experience to volunteer. Our coordinators are volunteers who have attended dinners many times and have experience that with which they can guide you to guarantee a safe and successful shift and dinner. Please follow their guidelines and advice.

As you’re working with food and knives, we expect you to be aware of how you dress and move through the space (e.g. avoid slippery/unstable shoes, keep knives pointing downwards when moving, consider your clothes might get dirty).

We cannot take responsibility for your items and belongings getting dirty or going missing, so keep an eye on your belongings
